Pros and Cons of "Wearable Technology"

BREAKING NEWS! Wearable technology could have many advantages in the classroom. The first experience I have ever had with wearable technology is with Polar heart rate monitors. I was personal training at a gym called Orange Theory Fitness. The program used polar heart rate monitors for each person taking the class. There is a band that goes around the person's torso with piece of technology near the heart that picked up electrical current when slightly wet. Along with this band around the torso, you wore a watch that would show you what your heart rate was throughout the workout. Orange Theory had a huge smart board set up in the corner of the facilicty that kept track of everybody's heart rate doing the workout. By the end of the workout I was able to see how long each person stayed in different target heart rate zones. This gave me great information as a trainer to review with the members so they knew for sure where they needed to work harder or maybe let up a little bit. When I start working at the high school level as a physical education teacher which is something I hope to do, I think this wearable technology would be a great tool to teach students so many facits of the science behind exercise besides just the simple fact that they were "working out".

Some Cons of wearable technology are it is very expensive and it could be uncomfortable to wear. Besides that, I feel it is a great tool that should be used in the future which would validate alot of the information taught in physical education!
