Pros and Cons of having a PWP and LinkedIn

It is easier now than ever before to create a website of your own at little to no cost at all. One of the pros of having a personal website is having the ability to market yourself and direct people to a place where they can get a snap shot of who you are and what you do. If you offer some type of service, your personal website can give your potential buyers contact information and read about service you have done in the past to help people in a similar situation. This type of presence could potentially make the difference between the potential buyer, client, or customer to trust in you versus going with someone else. One con of having a personal web site is what the people who visit your site read, is up to them to interpret. Just because you intend to send a positive message with all good intentions, does not mean that the reader will interpret it that way. With that being said, I recommend not putting anything to personal on your website, keep it as professional as possible.

One of the pros of LinkedIn is that you could get discover a potential employer, business partner, or simply add people to your network. One con is that, the search result is often accompanied with your Facebook page, and according to a study, 95% of employers nowadays try to look up their potential employees on Facebook. So if you have posted something indecent on Facebook, it may backfire on your LinkedIn profile no matter how professional they are. The second con is privacy, any stranger could know about who you worked for, where did you graduate, and what exactly have you done before. Some people may feel very uncomfortable with that.
